I'm trying to keep more up to date with this journal. I know I've been lax before, but that's really just because I didn't really have anything to write about. And if I have something to draw, but nothing to say, I'll just draw it in my other sketchbooks.
Anyways, I'm beginning to think I have a low tolerance for sugar. Whenever I eat a bunch of candy or have a soda, I wind up feeling antsy. I hate that feeling.

Gundams are cool.
But personally, I prefer more Battletech-style designs. :V

I mean, I don't mind Gundam-styled mechas (heck, I've even watched some of the U.C.-related titles in chronological order. As well as know reading up about the politics going on in the timeline). It's just that there's more examples out there than just simply Gundam (e.g Dougram, Macross (lol2outof3oftheunseenmechsfromBattletech), Votoms, Gasaraki, Patlabor, etc).
But then again, that's where reference images (and physical copies of good "how to draw mecha" books) come in and save the day.

You might like MS IGLOO, 08th MS Team, and 0080 for being one of the more "realistic" of the Gundam titles out there (aka it actually kind of fits into the genre the first series in '79 created: the "real robot" genre). 08th MS Team features mobile suits that actually break down and have some sense of mass to them, as well as depicting the military lifestyle as gritty. 0080 reveals the grim realities of war and how it isn't just a mere game. It also shows that even "the enemy" is human.
Yeah, there are but most seem to be from around the early 2000s. Some examples I found include Mecha Zone 2 The Art of David A. White, How to Draw Manga: Mech. Drawing, and How To Draw Manga Volume 12: Giant Robots. I plan on getting any of the listed books later on, so I can use it as a sort of help tool in case the online tutorials don't work out for me.
