I wouldn't say bad. But it's like... hrmmm... The straight line showing the shadow on the subject's left leg is counterintuitive to the notion that your character is fat. Overweight/obese individuals have a "round" element to them that an artist usually emphasizes. But the high-contrast shading doesn't emphasize the third dimension. That's not a bad thing, it's a style choice.
After all, you have still been an EFFECTIVE artist in that you have conveyed your character's girth with simply being anatomically accurate. I think that's more impressive than 'smooth shading'. So it depends on who you ask.
Smooth shading would be a good skill to have, but you've still successfully accomplished your goal.
