So, I thought it was time to upload a pic of something I did myself for a change.
I recently returned to the Warhammer 40k Hobby after a 10+ years hiatus, and now have started to give painting my minis a try.
I never was a good painter to begin with, but I think these turned out okay for a first start. It's also to show off the colors of my custom chapter.
Blood Red and Mithril Silver are the main colors used, and I think they go very well together. The bases are still unpainted, but that will still change.
This is a rather fast style without any fancy techniques. It's how I want my regular tacticals to look. I'll keep the more complicated stuff for more special units - Terminators, independent characters, vehicles and the like.
So, any opinions?
Oh, and excuse the rather lackluster quality - all I currently have to make photos with is my cellphone.

First of all, thank you for this very useful hint.
As mentioned before, I wanted to start easy as I haven't painted anything for over 10 years. Likewise, those are old minis that had been primed but not colored back then, so I figured I'd use them as practice.
As of now, I don't have too many colors/washes yet (Badab Black and Ogryn Flesh for washes). Gryphonne Sepia over Metal? That's interesting, and never had crossed my mind. Would you have any example on how that looks?
Anyway, I'll definitely try to steadily increase the work put into these and will give your suggestion a try. Thanks again!

Wow, once again thank you for all this helpful feedback! I'll certainly have a look at that link and see if I can pick up some useful stuff.
Also, I prime depending on how much work I expect to put in the mini. Normal Tacticals and other minis that I want to do fast are primed white, while some of the more impressive minis (Terminators, Characters, etc.) and all vehicles I prime black. You can actually see them in the background of this pic.
I'll definitely stock up on some washes now. Maybe I'll test the black one I have already on the metal for now and see how that turns out. I'm especially curious to see how those look on the very bright mithral silver.

Thanks, I think so too which is of course a reason why I chose them.
And I plan on collecting and painting a fully playable army.
As for now, I have all the models that were delivered with the Assault on Black Reach box as well as the Space Marine Battle force box, plus a couple of older, still unpainted minis (these 6 marines were old tacticals that I never got to color, so I decided to test/practice on them first). Some of the other minis are visible in the background already.
I intend to add to those regularly, depending on what my available money allows of course.
