Now I can honestly say I've seen a picture in which the artist has really captured wet fur.
This looks awesome!The amount of detail you put in your pieces consistently astounds me.

You know, I'm amused so many people comment on how great the fur is, when what I see most and love about this piece is that absolute tenderness in their gestures and expressions. You can really FEEL the love in this work...just those soft expressions and the way his arms warp around her and her's reach for him...it's very touching. You did a beautiful job!

Mostly because people (myself included) don't know how to do it well and it's rare to find good examples for this reason... So why not celebrate a treasure? :P

Not saying the technique isn't well done. ;) It is! But great art isn't always about technique. WHy not celebrate what the piece is conveying?

I know I do... But then, I portray intense emotions in just about everything I write, so I've gotten to where I silently appreciate things instead of commenting about it... I dunno, that's just me. I'm not sure about others, but I don't always write out my appreciation for things. I personally spend a lot of my time looking up highly emotional pieces so I can have facial references, so I guess you could say I'm used to seeing these kinds of moments... I just have a hard time with fur and feathers. lol (ironic, because I have them both)

Ehehe, oh I get that! Writing is a completely different ball field and one I frankly suck at! And trust me, I understand how hard wet fur is to render...I'm still trying to tackle it successfully myself. And of course it's nice to be told when you've done something well, as Kat most definitely has! But I think the thing we strive most for as illustrators is to get an emotion, a snapshot of a moment in time, across to our viewers. Just like you would to your readers. It's great to say to someone "I really like how you drew/wrote this segment!" but I think even more special when one says "What you drew/wrote really made me feel this way, and think about this. I was touched."

And oh yeah, fur and feathers are a pain. XD Everyone draws them differently, but I'm sure you'll find what works well for you. :) I'm still learning what works well for me!!! *laughs*

I just don't think I have a field in realistic rendering styles... So I stick to my typical "indestructible anime hair" effect when it gets wet... It just gets heavier. lol

I would LOVE to know how to draw wet fur... I fail at it so hard, it just ends up looking flat and... Not wet. lol
And is it just me, or does he look worried about something? The distant gaze there makes it look like there's something on his mind.
