So really this was started by nothing more than the thought that I don't think I've ever seen a modern elf, which then made me think about how I've never seen a elf break dancing or anything similar. Course that was partly because I was listening to the Dope Zebra song by Rhett and Link.

So I sketched the elf boy and then for the next two days struggled with what I wanted to do for the background. That's partly why he isn't wearing shoes. I didn't originally plan for him to be on a sidewalk.

I eventually had the idea of a cityscape ... it hurt so much. I don't live in or near a city and so painting one felt a rather out of my element. So needless to say, I don't have much practice in the city painting world. ^^'

But I am happy that I managed to draw a human-like character and not shutter the next day when I look at it! :D
Human faces alluded me for years. Couldn't find a style that worked for me. But I think I may have found it.
