I'm trying out for a Greater Nocturne, a species that belongs to DemonML over on dA

I promised myself that I wouldn't try out for any more adoptables for a while, but this guy's markings are SO PRETTY. I couldn't resist X'D (By the way this guy is #7)

I was going to do this in pencil, but I downloaded Sai yesterday and I wanted to try it out. My mom will probably kill me (I'm borrowing her laptop until I can afford to fix mine) but it was worth it! Sai feels better than photoshop to me for some reason, but I'm still getting used to it. Some of my techniques (like my new line art style and my grass) don't really transfer over too well, so I'll have to find a new way. But I'm finally able to color my pencil sketches, which is nice.

I accidentally clipped off the edge of the wing while I was cleaning up the sketch, but by the time I noticed it was too late to fix it, so it looks kind of weird.

I have some of his backstory laid out, but I'm not 100% happy with it yet, I still have to go through and rework it. But here's a little blurb. Surge "belongs" to the family that owns that factory. (The factory is the main source of income for many of the citizens in the small village nearby). Although he is free to come and go as he pleases (he's never chained up and the family doesn't think of him as a pet), he seems to enjoy living in town. His favorite person in the family is the youngest daughter.

Calm and a bit lazy, Surge mostly spends his days wandering around the village seeking treats from the villagers or lazing about in the fields that border it. He is well liked by the citizens (his presence scares away animals that are seeking to eat the livestock or the crops). He is also loved by the kids in the village, who can frequently be seen climbing on his back or hanging off his horns. He tolerates this incredibly well, and is usually very docile. At night he keeps an eye on the factory to make sure no one trespasses.

He loves any machinery that makes soft, quiet noises, particularly watches, and isn't afraid to rip them off of people's wrists to add them to his extensive collection. He is constantly listening for the subtle ticking noises. Even if you so much as look at your wrist around him, he'll pin you down and make absolutely sure you don't have a watch on. He will occasionally wear them on his horns and parade around the village.

Because he was raised by humans he can't fly terribly well (although he's great at gliding short distances), and is a clumsy hunter. He hasn't met any other Nocturnes up close (although he's seen them flying).

I have more, but I have to figure out a clean way to translate it from my shorthand, scribbled down in class bullet points XD So if I get him I'll draw him a ref and add more there C:
