It's getting rare to see new characters around, nowadays; it's all about drawing the existant, be it through commissions, fanart or whatever; we need more toony OCs with enriched backstories around here :3

I agree, i see most cartoonists only stick with their original ideas and never even think about writing a interesting back-story or creating new characters. Speaking for myself, i only make characters that represent myself in some sense. Caffrey for instance, is very much like me. He is my age and he comes from a small town from the middle of nowhere. He is generally disfigured, awkward, geeky, shy and fat. He have a secret crush on a boy in his school, Bond (Name not final), who is gay but in denial. Bond responds by bulling Caffrey by punching, kicking, taunting and thriving the edge of his Swiss army knife around everytime Caff get the courage to approach him and his friends. Bond is not ready for love and denies all feelings he have for Caffrey. He is also afraid to be bullied by his peeps just like Caff.

I also chose Caffrey as a name because it reminds me of the word "Skafferi" which means Pantry, a place where Caff has been too many times *jiggles fat*.

Pretty much my lifestory so far although i am not short like Caffrey, and i have never been bullied for the cause of liking my own gender. I've had my own "Bond" however,...the guy did not love me back.

Sorry for the long reply i just think this is an interesting topic. Would love to hear your thoughts about creating backstories for characters! We could continue this conversation in notes if you'd like! :D
