Don't Harm the Messenger
This was originally made to befriend those on lulz.net who hate artists and prove that we are not all stuck-up assholes. It failed, and lulz will remain a place where good people do not go.

/lulz is no different from the rest of the fandom.
The only thing that sets it apart is that people post anonymously so they're not afraid to criticize others. Compare that to here where, if anyone starts to critique or criticize an artist in any way, they immediately get jumped on and bad-mouthed by either the artist themselves, or one of their fans. No one's allowed to have an opinion other than "Wow, that's really good art!"
I lurk there and almost never post, and while the constant gossip and love for furry drama gets on my nerves, it's refreshing to see people be honest, even if the honesty its self is brutal.

Hanging around on chan-places such as lulz requires you to take anything anyone says with a truckload of salt, until you learn to distinguish between serious posts and obvious trolling attempts.
From what I can tell, your thread attracted the people who dislikes your particular art style, as well as the people who got their noses so high up in regards to perfect anatomy and coloring, they're almost toppling over backwards. And these people actively tried to troll you in order to make you discouraged and hopefully make you stop drawing, period, so that they do not have to "suffer through your art cluttering up FA" or similar. And of course there was your average "trololol' retards who simply trolled for the sake of trolling and causing massive "butthurt" in any way they could, simply for their own personal amusement.
Lulz really isn't a bad place once you learn to fully get behind the persona of anonymous and learn to mentally filter out all the retards.

Lulz has taught me to tell the difference between trolling and reasonable arguments. Lulz has also taught me that it's too easy to spout off gibberish in an idiotic stream-of-conciseness style, and when you do, expect to get your ass handed to you by someone better at logic and reasoning than you are.
Lulz can teach you not to overreact when your bubble is burst. Process new information and accept the possibility that you could be wrong. Change yourself for the better. Eventually, it becomes obvious when a poster or commenter is a butthurt idiot who wants petty revenge for a meaningless perceived slight - and it usually doesn't matter how right they are.
Most of the hate for lulz comes from both the very real presence of trolls that just want to make furries rage, and the plethora of furries who can't handle having their bubbles burst. What most people don't know is that there are only a few actual 'trolls' there, and too many furries that can't handle having themselves dissected and revealed for who they are.

^This so much.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen people ignorantly call someone a troll just because they disagreed with them, called them out, critiqued them, etc...
Most people just don't like Lulz because they don't cater to their bullshit, and they make people see most popufurs for who and what they really are. I've seen countless threads of "well-liked" furries having horrible truths about them exposed. And I don't consider that a bad thing at all.
And I don't mean truths as in "Haha so-and-so wets the bed at night" It's more like "O hey, look what so-and-so does to their dog when no one's around" or "Oh by the way, so-and-so traces/steals money/shouldn't be commissioned".
With a few immature and bullshit threads here and there of course :3

This is probably one of the best ways I've seen of summing up the board. Problem is, most people come in thinking it's going to be some sunshine and lollipops kind of board, and when the first piece of criticism hits, they freak out and will either leave forever with a tinge of spite towards the userbase, or will just freak out entirely and start a proverbial shitstorm. I've seen both, and it ain't pretty when the second one happens.
Beautiful wingspan. The scrolls in his possession give me the impression that he is a messenger of sorts. A fitting occupation for a winged being in fantasy. I like the orange and purple sky; that setting where the cloud cover renders one caught between a golden sunset below and a blanket of stars above.
/furi/ is nowhere near as pleasant or benevolent as it was when I started frequenting it some 4 years ago. Even then, it was always a forbidding place full of malevolent people. With the exception of the presence of a small handful of individuals, I cannot find very good reason as to why I continue to regularly browse there. Disheartening to hear of the unpleasant nature of your visit, but it is what most would come to expect of /furi/ by now. Though there are those among them who genuinely appreciate your kind gesture and effort in producing this.

Well don't you just spark words of controversy. I think it is beautiful. I also think that there are people who want to help others grow and flourish as artists (sometimes through helpful criticism) and others who want a soapbox to stand on to state their opinions, as well as bring others down. The internet is in general a count of the latter type, or so it seems to me. I still think this is lovely.
