Commissioned from
kcd who is always a joy to get my morphs done by. Shame I can't afford it more often.
Colours, character designs by me myself and I.
Originally the cast for the Pokemorph projects Apartment setting... which has wound up encompassing all the other parts too, was going to be Ten strong. Over time while still being in development the cast has expanded a great deal and through much mental gymnastics managed to keep all the characters well defined and rounded.
And so here we have Clump the Ryhorn, J'ami the Phanpy, Nevan the Togetic and Checker the Kecleon.

"Still think we should have called Haim.", there was a slight chatter to the snow-soggied Rhyhorns words, his shoulders doing their best to fit the small plates marking out his species together and lock heat in. He had missed that the divet on his head was quite heavily dusted in the white powder that hadn't really ceased in falling for the past few weeks. Really though the only trouble with the snow was that it indeed kept falling, there were more than enough fire-types in the local area to keep the pavements and fairly unused roads clear and safe to get good traction upon. Couldn't help with the cold winds that loved to bite through any thick clothing and sink right through his stoney form.
"It'll be fiiiinne. We drop in all the time and he never minds. Plus I am not freezing this shapely rump off when there's an option of heat and padding it out.". The voice managed to puncture the rather heavy foot-steps of the morph in front of Clump, a child-hood pal J'ami. Her parents hadn't quite understood the dominant english language and so she wound up with a spanish J at the start of her name, sounding as 'Hay-me'. No suprise that she was a plush figured gal but right now she looked all the heavier with that thick coat, large solid black spill of hair, apparently known as an emo cut when she happily showed the dye-job to him. He was one of the volunteers she'd asked to help pack up some of her things, having finally snagged a good chance of settling in the student apartments and was a tad excitable on the prospect of getting away from meddling parents. The other poor fool who had accepted to help, Clumps best bud Will.E had scarpered home quick as can be, grass-types never were all that fond of the chill. J'ami however had wanted a bit of a plod around as the nights lack of light engulged the cities skyline. This left him having to play as company since her mp3 player was still charging and walking in silence was so damn dull to her.
Didn't take long for Christmas to vanish from the place, the street-lamp decorations and great festive awnings that would stretch across small gaps between the buildings were packed away in storage. The big sale announcements plastered in shop windows switched to the January assortments, bout the only real sign of what had transpired were a few happy folk still wearing their Santa hats. Had been a pretty good one, Clump and Will.E had dodged the huge party blow-out the team liked to have in order to get a more fun-loving time over at what was being labelled as the Boyz Apartment, or as they preferred to know it, Argyles place.
"Ooooooh, oh that is so good~", almost sounded like the voice from a premium phone-line out of J'amis lips there. Giving a slight shuffle of her coat and clacking her chunky fingers against the buttons holding the straining thing together. Clump himself wasn't quite so ready to shed his heat-traps, nor did he tell J'ami of the large dollop of snow plopped upon her head. Quite the bushy mane, no wonder she couldn't feel it. Her stubby trunk perking almost immediately and picking up far fainter scents and airborne flavourings than he could manage... Well it would have normally but after a few test sniffs J'ami gave a pup-styled whine and brought both hands up to rub and warm up the completely numb appendage.
Her pace slowed allowing Clump to take the lead, it not being lost on him that she was doing this so that if there was any negative reaction... unlikely from Checker... then he'd be the one getting the blame while she could act as sweetness and heavy, no, no there was no way she could pretend to be light even in behaviour. The two of them went right past the elevator, Checker was only on the second floor but also just habit. Even with the reinforced cabling and improved weight-limits there was still something a little awkward about stepping into such a small space where the spindlier morphs would then become paranoid about in case fatty breaks the cables.
The second floor was that touch more pleasant, less traffic and so the paint seemed fresher on the walls, the bulletin boards had a few less lewd jokes pinned up upon them and as J'ami finally ceased rubbing her trunk she gave a little inward chuckle, shaking much of her form. "That smells good, real filling and good!".
Getting nearer the door Clump himself found the smells of fresh cooking seeping through, he'd not yet met another morph who was such a kitchen fiend as Checker. He'd met many a fiend to the kitchen yes, some of Argyles sandwich creations were nearly unspeakable... crunchy bug-parts... bleck. But Checker was a great enthusiast of food, despite being a twiggy guy in stature.
Past the pounding RnB of a few neighbouring apartments and they came upon Checkers place, his room-mates had been in their last years and moved out just before Christmas to get their own proper places leaving him with a pretty big place on his lonesome. J'ami realised her and Clump had drawn up even and so to keep her scape-goat plan in action dragged one of his thick-fingered mitts out from a pocket and lightly assaulted the door. The Rhyhorn just tilting his head at her and got a squishy figured Phanpy gal cuddling his arm in response.
The door also gave a response, though of a less embarassing kind to the bashful single Rhyhorn. "Doors open step on in", familiar voice that.
Nevan took a momentary break from enlightening Checker about the tactics of a Mario Party expert to both give the invitation and then peruse the arrivals. Those useless wings giving a little happy flutter as J'ami and Clump stepped on in. "Great news, I'm finally making him a gamer.", well it was something at least.
J'ami beamed mostly on the immense smell of well cooked food, seeing the spindly Checker giving a flex and unfurl of the tail, a sign he was nearly done. Turning his head to look at them with a slightly glimmering eye, "Hey, trying a new mix of Sweet and Sour. Going lighter on the vinegar, feel free.". It was something of a general statement in the Apartments now, Feel free being a shorter version of Make Yourselves at Home. J'ami indeed decided to feel free and make a second guy bashful as she stretched out her arms and sidled up to Nevan.
"Venny c'mere you flappy albino.", grabbing him in a hug and squeezing, his wings fluttering in mild mock panic. A second sudden squeeze causing a slight lurch and his catchers mitt emptying. "Wow, you squeezed me so hard my ball dropped."
"Could squeeze you again and make it even~", another chuckle that had the Phanpys well fed figure bounce before she deposited him back down on the kitchen counter. Clump scooping the ball up from the floor and lightly flicking it to his pal. "Still got another month and a half before we get to use the fields again I heard."
"Might not be that long for you Zards though, heard rumours that your first match is gonna be away against the Koffs. They have an indoor setup don't they?", Nevan himself was part of Montsayes baseball squad... well, reserve at any rate. Clump could only give a non-commital shrug, he hadn't come across any of the teaching staff or sports coaches during the holiday period so nothing was confirmed to him. Nevan giving a simple nod and returning to J'ami who quickly yanked him right off the counter to show the small gaming set up he had put together in Checkers living area.
"Coming along well?", was about the only question Clump could ever find in his head when approaching someone cooking. He was a microwave guy himself, but then Will.E made a habit of keeping the both of them fighting fuelled. He did like the swirl of colours from the various peppers and filling veg being swirled around the wok in Checkers clutches though. "Very nearly, open."
The wooden spoon came up quick, a thick orange sauce coating a smidge of Tauros beef and Clump accepted his role and gulped it. "Never had sweet and sour Beef before... mmm, soft, easily grinded. Sauce is... tangy?... nice though."
"Doesn't tingle at the back of your throat?", Checker actually taking his eyes away from the hob and tonights dinner to look properly at Clump and then quirked those golden rings encircling his eyes. "Um. Hold please.", Clump accepting the responsibility of gripping the offered Wok handle. Checker using his free hand to press against the Rhyhorns back and then push him down towards the sink. The confusion was only temporary as Clump felt a wet weight flumph off his head and into the sink, the great build up of snow breaking apart and melting into the cooling water Checker had been using on the rice.
"Oh... huh. Cheers."
"Not a worry, could you lay the table for me?... the heating tray is already on it, just needs new tea-candles.", Clump gave a nod as he grabbed a small wad of kitchen tissue and dried at his uncovered scalp. The quartet of plates and complimentary cutlery being placed rather softly on the table just as J'ami happily threw her arms in victory at besting Nevan in a single mini-game. This was a good ordinary time to him.
