MLP - We'll Always be Best Friends
"We'll always be best friends!"
Quick warm up before commissions and projects.
I'd like to think Gilda wasn't ALWAYS awful. Maybe Dash just broke a promise to Gilda...

I agree. Dashie and Gilda were probably decent kids, but it's remarkable how people can change over time (especially from childhood to early adulthood like in this situation).
One can hope that Gilda learned something about herself after the events in that episode. She seemed shaky in defending her actions, and when you have a group of ponies that large disapproving of your behavior, it makes an impact (for better or worse, depending on her level of stubbornness).
... Gosh I watch this show too much >__<

I tend to think of Gilda as one of Dashie's exes. I suspect Dash was a lot more like Gilda in her younger days, but she grew out of it for the most part, while Dash didn't, but Dash still felt some loyalty to her, so they tried remaining friends until Gilda came to Ponyville and acted like a total bitchface. I mean, seriously, bitch made Fluttershy cry. She needs to be punched in her stupid fat face over that one.
Have to agree with rof-28 on that part.. even when she was rampaging through the town looked more liek she was setting her place as an Alpha, in a more extreme version of Rainbow Dash's boasting. The Lion side of her being Super charged in pride from Eagal assistances. > <;
My theory is that Gilda was an orphan or at least didn’t have a great home life, which explains why she was in (I assume) a predominantly pony class (consider she is one of the only griffons we ever see, most likely they aren't common.) For a long time, Gilda’s only friend was Rainbow Dash. Considering Rainbow Dash was unpopular growing up (shown by the bullies in the Sonic Rainboom episode,) I don’t think it’s a stretch to put Gilda in the same social group as her best friend. However, Rainbow Dash was never as bad off as Gilda was. Even if Rainbow Dash was bullied and an orphan (we’ve never seen her parents,) she was still a pony, surrounded by ponies, with pony mentors and pony teachers. Assuming Gilda is an orphan, Gilda really had no one save Rainbow Dash to cling to.
Gilda clearly adores Rainbow Dash, and only gets aggressive when Pinkie Pie acts annoying (imagine if you come back from college and get some time to spend with your best friend, but Jar Jar Binks keeps interrupting every attempt you make to spend some time with her.) Midway through the episode, Gilda is dropped into a town she’s not familiar with, and surrounded by a bunch of ponies. Most likely she was scared and angry to see Rainbow Dash leave, or at least trying to assert her alpha nature (she is part lion and part eagle, not exactly friendly animals.) Yes, she yelled at Fluttershy, but really, why was Fluttershy doing walking backwards through a busy town? And, also, Fluttershy has kinda grown into a bitch the past few episodes.
Lastly, the only outburst that Rainbow Dash sees happens after Gilda has been through the ringer. In a very short amount of time, she gets electrocuted, set on fire, her coat gets soiled, and she is publicly humiliated in front of a bunch of laughing strangers repeatedly (might have caused flashbacks to school.) Those things considered, I think Gilda’s reaction was comparatively tame. Rainbow Dash broke off the relationship solely because Gilda, after being the laughing stock of a bunch of complete strangers, had a pretty understandable burst of anger. And then, Pinkie Pie threw the whole party to try to make Gilda feel at home, then basically dumped her.
Yeah, I’ve thought about… WAY too much. But for me, seeing Gilda’s face when Rainbow Dash rejects her was one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the show. I’ve tried to write Gilda as more three-dimensional in some fics, and I can only hope she might return for Season 4. At the moment, she’s about the only thing that can get me watching again.
Anyway, this is a great pic, and I am happy I found it again.
