As some of you may remember (but probably none of you do) way back about 9 months ago I said I was working putting together a few rules and a bit of lore for a steampunk themed tabletop RPG just for fun. I did a bit of work on it here and there but it never amounted to much; and seeing as it was just something to pass the time that never bothered me... and still doesn't.
However, over that last couple of days I've picked it back up and dusted it off a bit and done a bit more work, still just for fun. And I finally got around to putting together a map for it.. or at least part of a map.
This is New Rotherland, a frontier set in the southern oceans far to the east and an island-continent colonized by the western nations for it's value in controlling many trade routes.
It's meant to very very very vaguely be kind of like Austrailia (But not in it's shape, obviously) if it were pushed further northwards and closer to Asia.
It's coasts are lush and rich with forest life, the islands to it's south west even more so, while the interior of the land is harsh, dry and unforgiving.
The land is now inhabited by all the various peoples of the world, who brought with them all manner of political and military strife. But it's native inhabitants, the Oxsaur (literally Ox Lizards) are a huge hulking and intimidating reptilian people so named because the first explorers mistakenly thought them unintelligent and brutish animals, almost like large reptilian oxen.

Thanks, glad you like it.
Yeah, I know, that's the hardest part, but you should probably just try not to worry about too much and just have fun with it. If some of the ideas feel like they have been seen before then who cares, it's probably because they're at least half decent ideas.

Heh, Thanks! Most of the names are unfortunately from random name generator, or at least are parts of results form them that I just mashed together differently... because I suck at coming up with names for stuff.
Though in this case I think the idea of having the place names as just words mashed together kind of works, seeing as it's supposed to be fairly recently colonized, therefore most of the names would probably be either "New SomethingOrOther" or simply named after what the place looks like.

Yeah, I drew it. I like drawing up maps because it's not that complicated and I find it can be a kind of relaxing. Normally I just find a way to make a random jumble or light and dark colors, pick a section that looks interesting, and base the map shape on that and draw over the edge while changes that I think would look nice.
I'm not sure exactly if that answered your question, but I hope so.
