Yeah.. We had a yardsale, and he was our first customer. He loaded his car up with a ton of my grandmothers stuff. and Only offered TEN dollars...He even took several Elvis Presley vinyl records that were my grandmothers.. :\ Mom made him pay $20 for the truck load, she wasn't out to get rich, just trying to get rid of all the stuff we got when my grandmother passed away. He was really creepy too.
:\ Yeah. Even one of my FAVORITE toy dinosaurs as a kid. I was hoping ANOTHER kid would get it...not weird old man...even weirder, I was walking downtown with some friends, some months afterwards and I saw him in the store window and was like *LE GASP* That's my brachiosaurus! D:
W00t I love dead clocks, looks like some of the same era I got mine from http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1745564/ ^_^
I miss playing with it mechanically, some of the crap we made was weird, little armatures and wind up junk from toys and music boxes made awesome toys lol we like would make weird little cars n weird looking worm things out of the armatures and gears and theyd look like real worms moving but only worked for a few seconds fffff but still so fun.
I loved it though, all kinds of weird fun stuff like Victorian picture frames on touch panel monitors and silly interfaces like telegraph key mice and so on, I should get back into it some day ^O^

Oh yeah i totally did that too back when I was a kid, but I didnt get into the Neo-Victorian shit till like later on in the late 90s, after I saw an anime with a bunch of cool mechanical clockwork things and air pirates and airships and crazy awesome stuff and started going to Arisia in Boston and seeing people cos playing the stuff from that movie, didn't have a name for it back then but "Steam Punk" was eventually what they wound up calling it, I liked the look of it even in the "tonight tonight" video by the Smashing Pumpkins, that theatrical Neo-Victorian stuff, just blew me away back then lol
Should poke around my gallery, got some of the other crap I tinkered with up there, i'd have to find some more of the pix of the weird silly shit that basically became "sculptures" of sorts if I can find em I'll toss em up in my scraps or something, I made so much weird and fun stuff lol I almost miss steampunk, but last time I went to a con that had a heavy steampunk element it was basically trannys in top hats and assholes selling bullshit they bought and Micheals Crafts and super glued to rings and shit for like 40 bucks a pop, felt top hats with "real moving clockworks!" (a craft store clock poked through the side with a battery in it and spray painted gold plastic hands on it....) for like 50$, shit you could just buy and make yourself in 10 mins at iParty.
It was a huge turn off so I stopped for a long time, then I saw this video and laughed my ass off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFCuE5rHbPA lol its so well done and so damn true.
The kids that get into it nowadays makes me sad, I almost wanted to get back into it just to leech the money people are throwing at this crap they sell on Etsy.
It makes me really want to get back into making little wind up bugs and stuff and sell em, theyre painfully easy to do once you figure out the gearing.
Fun stuff though DAMN I love playing with it ^_^

I usedto be into the Cyberpunk scene, the whole Tank Girl esk electronics and Johnny Pnumonic stuff but that got old when Cyberpunk became more anime and people mixed the two and kept pushing until it was one in the same and people would call our shit anime or otaku stuff so we just stopped all together lol, I miss that stuff too, I was the first kid in town, or ever to have made a 12v pack for my playstation and used Virtual IO heads up display goggles with it and murcury switches from the D pad pins in the port to a little box glued to them so when i'd hit look on tomb raider it would look around, though tilting my head to look left and right was weird and it was pretty hard to deal with, it was still cool for a 17 year old to just do that shit lol I bypassed the power supply in the ps1 back when it was just called the playstation, and used a sealed battery from a set of emergency lights, used the light base to charge it at night and just used the damn thing on the train to boston when visiting people out there, it was AWESOME cuse it was like having my own theater, I put it on and the train ppl went away lol and I could play for a good 5 hours, the whole thing in a back pack so I was sitting there with virtual reality goggles on, an ALPS blue battarang looking controller and my own little VR world.
Though it was weird when i'd be sitting near people and suddenly be like "FUCK YEAH BITCH!" and forget ppl were around me lol, tear off the headset and be like, the weirdo lol

thats great. sounds like you are a bit more accomplished than I. best i ever did was build my own cassett deck. did it just to see if i could, for 3 days i couldn't figure out why it was playing backwards.... it finally dawned on me that i had hooked the power relays for the main motor backwards.
Weee, yeah I usedto have an old 4track reel to reel that was fun to dick with, very simple inside the other ones i found, the one i had i didnt wanna touch it, looked a bit out of my league.
Tape deck, that' id' never build, I would totally fuck up and have tape everywhere I know it lol

the two coolest things i am needing to get to are the reminents of a 1957 Admiral TV, the cabinet was toast but found a lot of goodies inside, I think the Picture tube is still good. and a 1948 Singer sweing machine iu am about 1/3 of the way through. had to put it aside for a while though, been on the backburner too long. was having trouble getting the screws off. the whole thing is cast Iron, screws included, so they are chipping badly. already broke the two rocker arms inside the thing. they somehow got fused, and snapped as soon as i put pressure on them.
