What clay is this?

It's a NSF Oil based clay that never hardens. So no matter what you do you always have to make a cast of the figure and make it out of Resin.

Ah nice. I picked me up some Polymer clay over the holiday though it's more of a peach-ish color. Very nice form on this one.

Yea, I like the Oil based as you can heat it melt it freeze it and use Hot wax pens on it. Makes it so much easier to smooth, Detail and get things to look good than traditional oven baked clays.

Wow you can melt it? I mean I'd guess so, the only oil-based stuff I've used is roma plastilina but that stuff is impossible to smooth out.

Look for Chavant NSP (Brown) Sulphur Free Clay. I tend to use Medium to Hard clay or I combine the two types together to make a hard medium clay by meliting it on in a big pot over the stove

Damn I keep hearing a lot about that brand. Probably shouldn't have been so quick to get Super Sculpey.

Fire the clay. Unless it's specifically a clay you don't fire.

Oh, Yea you don't fire this clay. Its a oil based clay where I will have to make a mold of the figure then make it out of Resin. This allows me to make copies of the actual figure.

Yea at first it was a pain in the tail to do but Let it set for a few days and it kinda hardens a little bit.. Well actually its been sitting on my to do shelf for over a year now. the NSP clay never hardens so it can sit there forever and you can go back and work on it whenever. I always find the hardest part is pitting the detail lines in the characters.

Yea Its freakin stupid. So far I have put in 120+ hours in this figure and I am still not finished let alone making the master mold for it.. uughs.. try imagining rubbing something for hours and hours and hours with very minimal to no change.. That is how smoothing a figure seems to feel like..

It's getting close. but I will be cutting it up to cast certain parts. most likely will be, Hat, Head, Body, Tail and then half the arms and shirt. then the extra piece will be cast separate for people that want that extra part ;) So total for this one piece I will have 6 total Silicone molds to cast the resin copy with..

But first I need to build my RotoCasting machine..

Actually I just went up to Blicks and picked myself up a bunch Of Roma clay with a 30% off coupon "I could not pass the temptation with the discount".. I wanted to play around with a lifesize cast of a head.. then do a casting of it in Latex to play around with and practice airbrushing on..

I am thinking of doing kinda like a evil beat up scared bust of Stitch for a good practice on Teeth, Nose, long ears and scars etc.. "Shrugs we will see"

Taking a break from the small sculpts. Plus I wanna try out the Rotocasting machine once I have it built :)

Me... I've been knitting.. hats.. lots and lots of hats.. I've become a total yarn whore as of late.. I have a vinyl show in March so I gotta get to work on finishing a few vinyl figures.. and I have some simple conjoined stuffies planned.

I guess my brother is trying to get a word in for me to get a job at Whole Foods, where he works, as the store artist.. lol sounds fun but I feel under-qualified..

Other than that not much.. just doodling and spiffing the house.. Are you done with your store acquisition yet?

Haha, I am trying. one of my goals this year is to crank out a few good sculptures but I need to get this one, the Itomic bird one and the one for Slug off my to do shelf first as these will be my last sculptures using this type of clay.

I have some new stuff I can't wait to try coming in sometime in April.

And I can't wait to seeee!
