I'm really proud of this piece. Not only is it rather a complicated stage, but I had to do five separate caricatures of the main players in Red Dwarf. The other "fans" in the drawing are made up, but nevertheless had to seem plausibly real. (And I have been asked if any were in fact real people.) The bunkroom illustrated is from the early episodes, when they had the run of the entire mile-long ship, but since they were so low in the ship's hierarchy that they only had this small, cruddy room. Strangely, even when everyone else was dead and the guys could have taken over the captain's stateroom, they chose to stay here. Given the industrial nature of the Red Dwarf, maybe the Captains quarters weren't much better? Maybe Lister and Rimmer's cabin was closer to the grub, or the head? Maybe the budget didn't cover another set...
Saara Mar makes a guest appearance at far left, checking out one of the lockers. Oh, and that's the Talkey Toaster at bottom center.
The piece wasn't drawn in a vaccuum (excuse the pun). I drew it to accompany a very long article I wrote to discuss the Red Dwarf series from beginning to its somewhat disappointing end.
