Alana and Ciara are supposed to be enemies. On their home island of Viridis lynxes and foxes have been at war with each other, off and on, for the last thousand years. But Alana is sick of the fighting, and would much rather live her life in pursuit of the spiritual while Ciara is only interested in keeping the people she loves safe and happy. Both of them are keenly aware of the past. They are both princesses and the sole heirs to the thrones of their respective kingdoms. Nevertheless, they both agree that it is extremely silly to keep fighting over issues that have been all but forgotten for generations and that both kingdoms must unite and make peace if either of them are to have any hope of survival.
Mara offered a handful of discounted commissions so she could have some clean art to take to the FC art show, and I really wanted to get some more art done of Alana, so I jumped at the chance to have this done. She did an amazing job with this, too! I love the peaceful, friendly atmosphere of this picture. It really captures the spirit of the chapter, where two people from opposite sides of a war find they have more reason to be friends than to fight.

I really do need to get more done with poor Alana. I hadn't realized how long it had been since I'd gotten her drawn! Unfortunately, since she dies in the book that kind of puts the brakes on a lot of ideas for her, but at least I can explore her past.
I really like how well this picture fits the chapter, too, and all without Mara having read it or my having explained the idea in any great detail! That's one reason why they're outside instead of in a house as they were in the chapter. Still, I don't think that's a problem and she really did a good job with the background on this one. I do like the happy, relaxed mood, too. Neither Alana nor Ciara were given much of a chance to simply relax in the book, which is why the Mushroom Soup chapter was always one of my favorites.
*Hugs* As for re-reading the chapters, well of course it's only if you want to and all. I know how tough things have been for you, and I would never have expected you to try to focus on anything you didn't have to. But it's kind of you to think of it.

My goodness, Alana again at last! I'm particularly fond of the colouring in this one; the red of the Ciara's clothes goes particularly nicely with the deep blue night sky. It's very nice too to see a more peaceful scene with her (and Alana) in it. Though if I had my way, war or mushroom soup wouldn't even be a contest!
I thought it was high time she came back for another round. As I said to Eliki, I really would like to do more with her than I have done so far. She's still got a whole past for me to explore, for a start. I like the colors in this one, too. That's something that Mara has always done a really good job with. *Grins* And yes, I have to agree. I'll take mushroom soup over war any day!
Hey, that's awesome! I'm really glad it did so well for you, and that your work in general did really well, too. I've never actually spoken to
blotch myself, but I know they're held in some regard in this fandom, so it's cool they liked your work, too. Thanks for letting me know and keep up the good work! I've always really admired your art, and I have no doubt you'll go a long way with it.
