If you would like a suggestion, I would say that when you get more comfortable with shading, come back to this piece and add some more layers of shadow/darkness, and maybe even some hilights on the pieces of him that are "closest" to the moon (in perspective) :)

I remember when I was starting out with shading I would do one layer.... actually my art looked a lot like this >w<
and I WAS SO AFRAID to add more because I REAALLLYYYYY didn't wanna mess it up XDD
but once you feel comfortable you just... go for it, and you may be pleasantly surprised with how it turns out :) :)

I'm going to be honest with you... multi-level shading just doesn't seem to work for me. I'm going to keep working on it over time, but it never seems to turn out well when I try it.

ah I see.... for a long time it didn't work for me either.
sometimes it depends on the kind of shading you are using, or the technique.

just keep working with it though~ never give up on yourself! >w<
