I see some decent progress here but, be wary though of using the very brightest of whites in rendering a scene like this. The contrast the pure white creates against the fur might be a bit too much given a beach scene. When picking color values evaluate the tonality of the colors around it. Like the lightest color on the fur may not be the same tone as the lightest color on the clothing, etc. Just something to be aware of. However I think that you’re grasping these basic concepts pretty well! The lines are nice and clean and your muzzle/face design is well done.

Ahah... well you really need some good positive and constructive critique to really get better. Defiantly look into rendering and color values. I'm sure one of your friends will be able to help you with that, notably Tao who has an excellent grasp on the stuff.

Rendering is specifically the progression or recreation of a casting of light across a object. It's a skill/concept that brings some believability into a drawing. It's a confusing term now that we normally hear Rendering in the 3D Creation Sense. Whether it be Cel-Shading or the Smooth Variant, you're producing an image that has a perception of depth even though its 2D media.
