Not many know about this island, then again not many will ever know. But it is this small island that I have been born and raised to love. One major reason I will never want to step foot off the island is because I will miss the Adventure and stories the island has to offer. Like the day we all found the treasure of the island.
Hi im Bingles. Explorer and Jagucaw of this island known as Congo Island. This is my story.
Chapter 1: Just the Usual
It started one evening. Dara and myself were at the forest edge, where the trees stood tall in a wall like way next to the open grassy field. We were just mucking around, Just the Usual. A new girl had moved down recently to the island, unlike most of us she was a posh canine, hated adventure and surely did not want to be here. But I was curious, so I asked Dara her thoughts on her. “OH! You mean the posh chick right? Yer… the only reason why everyone accepts her and wants to hang with her is because they’re to scared to get on her bad side. “ Dara was strong willed and always spoke what was on her mind, many times she never thought before she spoke. Many people would give up on talking to such a person, but it didn’t seem to phase me anymore… well much anyways. “I don’t know Dara. You haven’t even given her a chance. I mean, yer she doesn’t sound like a nice person but I bet deep down she is nice…” My reply sparked a laughter and a glare from Dara’s large eyes. She just smiled, her small sabre teeth showing. Dara wasn’t the usual animal, neither was most the people here. She was a creature from the island, which we all accepted into our village. I don’t know to much on her past, Dara hated to bring it up, so I never did. It always sparked an interest in me though. I dropped the subject of the new girl, it wasn’t nice to talk about people behind their back, if anything I should just go up and say hi. I would soon get to know why so many people are soo called ‘scared’ of her. I looked up, the night air was shaking my blue spotted coat, it was beginning to get dark. The town was a few minutes away from the field; it would be a quick walk home. “Come on! Its time we head back, don’t want them forest spirits coming after us!” Forest spirits were an old tale known throughout the village. Strange glowing lights would chase after one who ventured into the forest at night, those who see the light never come back…. It’s just a crazy old tale… I one day will prove it! I looked over at Dara and shot a smile before I bounded away towards home. “Hey! Bingles! You never play fair!” I heard her growls in the distant but I could tell she was darting after me.
Chapter 2: Odd One Out
It didn’t takes us long to reach the town. “Your not fair Bingles. I will show you im faster tomorrow! Till then im off. See you round feather head.” Dara smiled one of her smiles and plodded back to her cave. If you were to walk into the town, you wouldn’t even know you were in town. Everyone’s houses were made from the habitat around them. For me, I live with my family in a rock. Doesn’t sound all that cozy right? Believe me though, it’s the finest cave around! I made my way into the cave, I could hear my two brothers, Caleb and Jai wrestling. I was the oldest of the family. My mother was in the far back of the cave watching the twins fight. I walked over and plonked myself next to her, the day had taken a toll on me. I was the odd one out of my family, for I was blue. My mother was a native green, so was Caleb, he took after his mother. Jai took after our father, he was a stunning red colour, could spot him from anywhere! As my father used to say, ‘Red stops everyone in their tracks.’ He was right. Everywhere we went someone would comment on Jai’s coat, he was very up himself at times to, which makes it all that much worse. As for my father, sadly he has disappeared, mum never told us kids exactly what happened, it hurt her to much. I just always dropped the subject, besides I still have hope that he will return. After a casual chat with my mother I rested my dreary head between my paws, my eyelids were becoming heavy. It wasn’t long till I was off in another land.
Chapter 3: Head up, Smile up
The cold air swept through our caves, my fur kept its bitterness away. I could have slept all day but the golden clock shun into our cave, brightly and vividly. I woke up slowly, my eyes still groggy. It felt to early so I buried my head back under my paws, blocking the rays of light from my tired eyes. I felt my self-drifting off again till I felt a sharp pain in my tail. I jolted up to see Jai clenching my tail in his small mouth. I sighed and pushed him away and laughed to myself. I looked around for mum, I found her out the front with Caleb, she was giving him a quick bath. I laughed as I watched the cub struggle for freedom, but not being able to due to his mother’s large, caring paws. “Hey mum, im going down to the beach. Im meeting Dara there! See you later!” I smiled and was about to bounce away when I felt my tail caught. Once again I turned around to see my mother’s paw firmly holding my tail. “Now wait just a second mister. A busy bird told me that there is a Island activity going on this week. I know you hate these sorts of things, but you haven’t done one for a while…” mum continued to ramble. Island activities were a huge part of the year on the island. I wasn’t all to keen on them, to me they were boring and a waste of time. Many kids enjoyed them, but I had grown out of it. Mum tried to get me involved but every year I would find some ways of getting out of it. I wasn’t to sure how I was getting out of it this year.. I decided to tune back into mother. “Well this year they’re holding a week adventure for the older kids of the island. You’ll be gone for a week. Daras parents, All the parents of the older kids are sending them to the camp. Everyone HAS to go. Which means you Bingles.” I froze when she said had to. When mum said something she meant it… “But MU-“ i tried to argue but she cut me off and complained to me how I never spoke to the other older kids of the island. It wasn’t that I disliked them or anything, it was just I was to afraid to say hello, I was to scared to know what they think of me. I was happy with Dara, I didn’t need to know anyone else. “You need to go head down to Ricky’s hut. He will tell you more down there. Now off you go!” I sighed. This looked like it was going to be a terrible week. “Okay mum” I said with a dreary tone. I gave her and my brothers one last hug and plodded sadly towards the direction of the hut. “Remember hun to keep your head up and your smile up too!” my mother’s words repeated in my head but I couldn’t seem to put them into action.
