I'm so tired, can someone carry me to the battlefield?
With that armor, I would think three people would have to carry you. Or maybe, two could carry just you and one will carry the pieces of armor. But then, who shows up to a battle without any armor? Deadmen, that's who!

Wow! I was actually thinking of this question yesterday! Mindfreak! OoO
I would think with their very strong legs and immense height, I don't think they would have any use for a mount. Even if they went up against an opponent with a mount, I would think they would have no trouble jumping up and shacking the rider. (Disclaimer: These are just my thoughts on the matter. I'm not certain that it's the truth. :3)

Ah! Now I see! Well, yes, I suppose you could say they are like that. But then again, I would think a few sergals got the idea of using a mount, if it was big enough to allowed them to ride. If so, that would be one awesome mounted soldier! And just imagine a cavalry of them! OoO
I'm pretty sure knights and other such armored warriors throughout history normally rode mounts into battle to offset the stamina draining properties of their armor. However this is just a matter of using the mount's (horse, elephant, etc.) superior strength and stamina to make up for the human body's relatively weak performance. It is then just a matter of sergals having stamina comparable to that of a horse or other mount.
With humans, extremely bulky people (like body builders) often have great strength but relatively poor stamina. Sergals seem to have more of a runner's build (lean, low body fat) and would likely have good stamina.
Then there is the issue of what the armor is made of. I was thinking I had read somewhere that sergal armor was made of a ceramic material rather than iron or steel. I think the plates in some modern day body armor are ceramic contained in a fabric sleeve that fractures when hit to dissipate kinetic energy.
I'm not expert on this, so if somebody out there is more knowledgeable about this stuff, feel free to correct.
BTW, nice pic!

Indeed, using mounts were preferable in travel and in battle than on foot, especially when wearing layers and layers of armor. It gives a soldier an advantage.
Sergals do have more of a runner's build and thus have less need for a mount in travel. But, if they found a suitable mount that could carry their weight and one that they could control, they would have a big advantage during battles. When I imagine something that would be a good mount for sergals, I imagine something big and sturdy. Wouldn't be practical in travel, but it would be hell in a battle charge.
And yes, in the Red Chapter, northern armor is ceramic, but I'm not sure if that meant that goes for the southerners too.
And thanks for the compliment! :D
