Section of 7' fully engraved exhaust shield. Other side is only 6'.
This scene was my interpretation of a little blurry pic I googled. don't know the original artist.
This is one of about 100+ individual parts from the project I have mentioned in my journal that I was asked to engrave on 2 custom Indian motorcycles. I took a 1 week engraving corse in 1984 but only did some very minor straight line border work once in a while for the next 18 years.
The engraver we contracted to do the work retired 2/3s through the first bike, so thanks to my boss having seen my art and the fact that I had made a comment when we had received the first that I thought the engraving looked like crap and I could do much better. 2 months later, my boss informed me that the engraver was out of business and dumped the project on me, advanced $2000 to get my engraving equipment, and turned me loose on the bikes.
Talk about pressure, I hadn't touched an engraving tool in 10 years and the owner of the bikes is one of the top 500 richest guys in the world and a former Head of State.
I told my boss that if he wants me to do another one, I would like to do cats.
:)He wants the next bike will be covered with lions or tigers! :)
I will be posting more engraining pics in my scraps and all on my DA account.

It's a learning experience for sure. I'm getting better as I go but it is taking way longer than originally thought. Many hundreds of hours and all of it time that otherwise would have been spent on my regular artwork. I'll be getting close to $15000 but I really think I would rather have not taken the project. It's fun at times but but I don't love it as I do my drawing.
After I clock out at work in the afternoon, I go upstairs and work on the engraving the next 2 to 4 hours on my own time. Also work on it 6 to 8 hours on the weekends.Yes, I;m getting paid, I didn't set the price, the original engraver did, probably about $16000 for the 1 1/4 bikes. It sounds good but I really think I would rather have spent my time doing my regular art work.
