A train with Canadian National and Canadian Pacific power waits to proceed onto the former Milwaukee Road main line at Galewood Yard on the far west side of Chicago. The steel in focus in the foreground are stacked rails with turnout assemblies attached. Essentially all that needs to be done to replace an entire switch is to spike or clip the rails to crossties and weld the new rail to the old.
