In the storyline, Rufus got arrested for assault before the season started, and thus his future in the league was in doubt. Compounded with the fact that his career started thanks to learning to ball in prison, the tabloids obviously had a field day with the story and it wasn't long at all before they picked up on it. So Shane in his cell, sitting on the edge of his bed and looking at a magazine that's already selling issues thanks to his story. All he wants is to just play basketball and leave his past alone.
