Those who have followed me for years or who have gone through my gallery will recognize this song. To others, it may be brand new.
Decided to re-record this, three years later, since I can do music better now.
The song refers to the insignia usually put on the smokestacks, or funnels, on merchant ship. The Royal British Merchant Marine has no insignia and were therefore referred to as the Grey Funnel Line.
Words changed slightly to refer to sailing ships rather than steam ships. An anachronism, to be sure, but this song is sung at Renn Faires a lot, so, nyah.
Drum is computer generated. All voices are mine. Ocean sound is public domain. All arrangements and recording are mine. In other words, no backing track.
Enjoy.
Original song by Cyril Tawney.
