Salt air and the crashing waves of the sea surrounded the both of us. We had both ran to our favorite spot to watch the sunset together, dodging all of the seagulls as best as we could.
Summer was ending soon; you could feel the grey of winter slowly creeping in, and we both knew what we shared was never really meant to last, as long as it did.
"...How long will you stay here?" I asked her.
A soft voice, musical, yet with a tint of sadness- something that met the ending sun creeping down on the horizon, something fleeting in the same moment, but still endearing- replied:
"I am still with you. You might stay; You might leave. But- we still have this at least...and in the end, isn't that all that matters?"
Not even thinking about it, I casually curled my feet around her feet, and casually held my pinky with hers, not wanting to leave. I guess I still loved her deep down, but never really told her, to my regret. The only thing left was to watch the sunset together...and wait...wait to see what tomorrow would bring...
I guess it was too late to realize, even then- there is nothing more terrible than regret.
