My parents sometimes say mom or dad to each other, in front of us kids. Like 'Dad, your daughter is talking to you' or 'Mom, your kids are wanting to ask you something.' But when it's all cutesy to each other and kinda flirty, *shudders* I agree it's kinda creepy xD
I don't think that's why people call each other "baby", but I do see how you could misunderstand it to be creepy. "Daddy" is much creepier to me. I think the full train of thought for "baby" is that it is a nice soft word, like honey, or sweety. Also "babe" means a sexy girl (or boy, in some cases) so maybe people don't see much difference between "babe" and "baby"
