The upper level of the long-abandoned Gary Union Station in, well, Gary, Indiana. This floor housed offices for the railroads- New York Central and Baltimore & Ohio, respectively. The broken-out skylight, windows and frame of the building were of steel manufactured by the local mills, just one of which still exists in operation. That round thing on the floor is a light fixture that at some point, came crashing down along with the chunk of ceiling next to it.

I certainly need to go there and take a look myself...the hard part is doing so in a way that won't get me arrested, heh. And thankfully, Gary Works isn't the only steel mill still in production in the area. There is Inland Steel (now ArcelorMittal) in East Chicago, producing cold-rolled steel and bar products, and also molten steel transported by rail to a mill in Riverdale (I need to put up my pictures of that). There's also the former Bethlehem Steel works at Burns Harbor, later International Steel Group, and now also ArcelorMittal...it would be nice if the South Works, Wisconsin Steel, and McCorming-Deering were still there, though...
