For being such annoying shits, they really are quite pretty when you can get a good look at 'em! Pretty colors and contrast.

Also, this would seem to be a great case of "Latin name much better than common." Haha!

if you have trouble with photographing/killing flies and are very patient, you can wait until they are "sleepy" - late night or early morning. this is what I did when clearing the garage of horseflies. most bugs just stop moving at night in order to avoid getting caught, but the flies actually do something that approximates sleep. doesn't really surprise me, flies are capable of astounding flight!

I envy people who can do nature photography. That must have been a massive pain in the ass to get right.

It's a tricky process sometimes, but rewarding when it really comes together.
