Become female to boost your charisma stat, and as the guards show up act like the shopkeeper is a lieing former boyfriend who constantly harasses you. If this strategy looks like its going south, holler to a nearby competing stand, and ask him to verify your story. If the either store owner isn't entirely honest about business, the other will support you, if he hesitates, the guards attention will be on him and will buy you a few seconds to get out of dodge.
if the Genie in the ring is giving him Ideas and he can summon up a small elemental this means that our furry thief has the power to change shape using magic or what we would call magic...
A thief steals for a number of reasons but the most common one is "to survive"
think he stole the ring from a vender because he knew what it was and what it could do.
He will need to get himself out of this situation.. but staying a Crow might not cut it.... shape-shifting might be common enough in this universe to still get him caught we will just have to see what happens next...
hopefully he will get away to his hide away and check out that ring....Jinn ring though it might be...
