Seems that despite all her anti-social and anti-people sentiments Selene can find some time to hang out with a poor and homeless girl like Beth and her pet rat BB. Maybe it's a symbol of christmas goodwill towards others? To Selene it isn't about the festive season at all but however you look at it, it has to be said they have more in common than they might think, after all they both seem to be having not so good days in their own respects.

This scene is made more impressive by Beth's powerful trust issues, she almost never speaks to or trusts anyone to b near her, but Selene's pulled it off somehow.
