Heh, well I've heard griffons did come out to be a symbol of Christ for knight-heraldry after the Church got over the BS that they were symbols and creatures of Satan. The Lion symbolizes Christ as the King of Earth, while the Eagle symbolizes Christ as the King of Heaven, or so I remembered reading once.
