One night, I was chatting with my friend here, the modern inkblot, HKUriah.
Out of the blue, he gives me a link and asks me to look at it. To my horror, it was the infamous 'A Trekkie's Tale' aka the origin of the 'Mary Sue' character type. Considering that I had just eaten dinner before chatting with HKU, my reaction was... pretty much what you see here.
Exactly WHY he thought that I suddenly needed to see that for no reason is beyond me. Needless to say, he's lost link trust privileges for awhile.

Now, in the interests of honesty, I was not trying to make Lel sick, only share the story with her as a historical oddity.
In truth, the story IS bad, but it's bad on purpose. It's a parody of all the very bad author insertion stories that were so common in Star Trek fanfic in the early 70's. So, while it is the origin of the NAME Mary Sue, the character type was around before the story.
If you wanna see "A Trekkie's Tale" it can be seen here...

Be warned, it is an annoying fic. But on purpose.
Come on, Lel. You know my motives were pure!
And BTW, a fantastic drawing!
Hmm... I just noticed that the link was wrong. Here's the right one..
