Somewhere in the frigid winter tundra, a grey wolf lazily rests in the canopy. As you walk closer to admire her natural beauty, the majestic creature perks up and stares intently, directly in your eyes, and rests her right forepaw on a fallen branch in a gesture of interest and friendship, beckoning you to come closer...
One of my favorite recent wolf shots!

I've been around a couple of wolves and they would both did that! That's a beautiful shot! I think it's their "You are coming over here" look. I would go into their enclosure then all hell would break loose... I learned to take my glasses off and put them in a pocket... My face would be covered with wolf slobber from their greeting when I knelt down to greet them. I found it best to just sit on the ground and let them get the greeting over with...
The three adults took a couple of months of being around them just about everyday till they felt safe and welcomed me into their space. The four pups on the other hand were just like any puppy "Oh boy you want to play?" They had been pulled from the female and handled mostly by human, the female would feed them a couple had to be bottle fed. Really all of them were bottle fed till Tash started making more milk.
I was taking care of them while Scot and Pat were gone, one evening I sat on the ground against the inner fence and fell asleep when I woke well after dark, I had wolves all around me as in they were laying into me trying to keep the furless pack member warm.
One of the reasons why I enjoy my malamutes is they interact with you much like a socialized wolf will.
I really count myself lucky for having been around wolves like that. It's one of those things that made that part of my life brighter. Hell that was over 30 years ago now.

Those eyes... I mean, THOSE EYES... Mystical, yet warmly entrancing... LOLZ
On a lighter note, it's kinda funny how she has one paw on that branch like "Hey, Bartender!"
What I like most about this shot though is despite it being at a zoo, you'd never even know it. Looks like you were just meandering through the woodlands and happened upon a rare sight.
Great job.

Maybe she wanted some "White Wolf" Golden Ale! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmsetzler/3851268574/
That's one of my goals when I go out shooting, to capture the animals as if they were in their natural environments. At a wonderful zoo like Woodland Park this is very possible for a number of animals.
Thanks very much
