Got to cookin' again now that I have some free time, so I made this Mulligan stew. It came out pretty damn tasty too.
Here's the recipe!
crock pot
1 lb. beef
3 carrots
3 stalks of celery
1/2 red cabbage
1 green pepper
brown mushrooms
6 cloves of garlic
yellow baby potatoes
1 can garlic tomato paste
salt and pepper to taste
whatever spices you feel like throwing in
2 tbs. Worcestershire sauce
-Chop up carrots, celery, garlic and cabbage. Place in crock pot with beef and 2 cups of beef stock. Set crock pot on high for two hours.
-Turn crock pot to low and mix in tomato paste. Chop up potatoes and green pepper and add to mix. Add salt, pepper and whatever spices you've chosen for your stew. Add Worcestershire sauce and leave for three hours.
-Cut up mushrooms and mix into stew. Let cook for another hour and serve.

I looked up the concept and origins of "Mullign stew" as it wasn't a term I recognised. I kind of call it a one pot wonder.
Now this brings me memories of days when I was greatly financially strained. I'm a scrounge. I used to be the supplier of vegetables and bread that I would then sort, take over to a friends house with a few other friends about to get creative with and we would all end up with pasties, stews and who knew what else. I was quite the scrounge and very successful at it. Every week at least twice week four families would eat well and with left overs. Although these times were hard I have only fond and wonderful memories of them.
Oh, and although this isn't an accivity that I have needed to do for a good ten years or more, what amuses at the moment is that I still got the gift of scrounging and scored a whole mass of vegetables and fruit for nothing yesterday.
Lovely looking stew *hugs*
