Reposted from my DA gallery.
This picture is from the May 2009 round of aceofursxchange. I was assigned to draw keyox's awesome character, Blu.
I went with a space theme for this picture since Keyox requested it. She also mentioned comets in her description, so I put one in the picture. I have to say, the space theme really threw me through a loop. I've never really done a night sky/space background before (at least one that wasn't the cheapo dodge/burn photoshop sky that was running around back in '05/'06) so it was an interesting challenge getting it to look right. One thing that I found out was that white stars look crappy and stand out too much, so I used a light orange-ish and/or light purple color to make all of the stars (but my scanner still saw them as being white ;.; ). I also decided to do a lineless full-body just to see if I could. I think next time I'm going to do a headshot only and see how far I can push the fur/feather/whatever rendering at this size.
The scan is pretty inaccurate on the colors. The background is lighter and is a bit more of a brownish/dark reddish color than in the scan. Blu's main blue color is also darker/less saturated (about the same shade as the reference sheet) and blends into her black markings A LOT better.
