well if its a female then its possible she needs a mate or vice versa. Another i can suggest is to let the bird out and explore the house by placing designated areas in the corners by putting up pirch branches and laying down something underneath to catch droppings. This lets them spread their wings and be happy. Plus Cockatiels crave attention sometimes so saying hello to them or engaging in a chat can not only curb their boredom but also in a way teach them vocalization patterns.
My grandparents had one that got this way and he was quite the ham in attention getting....would sing to himself "Rico's a pretty bird, Rico's pretty bird whee whew" lol did it everytime he saw reflection of himself or there was someone he never met nearby.

yea I think she needs a mate because my grand ma DOES keep her out of the cage 90% of the time and gives her tattion all the time. even I try to give her attention as well. and she does most of the above.
aww that's adorable :) my grandmas bird dont do that. she is normally pretty quiet.

Yeah i would get a mate for her then because it seems she is getting enough attention and freedom to not be bored. sigh...cockatiels...why you so random!
Lol i'm a parrot,Macaw person mostly but i have slowly been lingering towards getting a finch or parakeet for a pet but i would rather have one i can train to not leave the house when i open the door and stuff.

wow... I almost feel sad now that i have no money. Did a search on adoptable birds in my area... a 35 yo Male Amazon popped up...poor thing but fo its age it looks very healthy in the pic. Its been in the adoption service for 2 years. They want $250 for the little guy. Darn it if i had the cash i would so get him!
Awww!!! I just adopted a cockatiel 2 weeks ago. His name is Chester, here's a pic of him. :3 http://twitpic.com/7ikqef
Cockatiels are great pets, but make sure your new little buddy is aware of who's in charge. They consider height a dominance thing, so when you're holding him I'd recommend not letting him perch on your shoulder. Let me know if you have any questions about the behavior and good luck with your new birdie! :3
