So this is one of the literary criticisms that I wrote this year based on Henrik Ibsen's Modern Drama Hedda Gabler.
As the title implies, this essay is all about gender constructs and other forms of patriarchal influence during the late 19th century.

“well of course, General Gabler’s daughter. What a life she had in the general’s day! Remember seeing her out with her father”
I would further a different feeling for the meaning of these lines - the General had no son and so treated his daughter as the son he wished he had - there by she grew up with the male influence and was not docile as her mother most certainly was.

*hugs..... middle ground is good... I could never do a review like this.
When my daughter was taking philosophy, I would do her homework for her (essays). I simply let my with and disdain for what I read take over. I would then discuss what I'd written and why with my daughter - better over all for the course in any case as she was running into a blank wall. She'd tell me - the professor's not going to like this. I'd tell her - trust me, he'll love it. In the end she got a note back telling her she should consider taking a master's in philosophy. We both had a good laugh at that one.
