Nightmare, being a spirit, has a long, flexible skeleton. Never before has her mask been removed, although some say her face is mere smoke, others say she has no face at all.

Nightmare is the spirit of Life and Death, she has a light side, and a dark side(shown here)

Being the spirit of Life, she appears before the newborn child, and will usually grant them life. The child, fearful of the creature they see, cries.

Also being the spirit of Death, she is also seen before those on their deathbeds. Some, the purest souls, she gifts them life. But the hateful souls, she grants death. Also, when she appears before the newborns, she may also not grant them much life. The newborns who do not cry, are the ones that are too weak to be given life, and take comfort in Nightmare's appearence, therefore their souls follow her.

Nightmare has also been known to appear before major accidents, such as plane accidents. But her appearance is subtle, therefor not many people notice her presence. Some say she appeared during 9/11, others say she stood atop the buildings as they crumbled down, but her figure was shrouded by smoke.

Nightmare, being a souleater, may also take the hateful souls for herself, eating them and sending them into eternal darkness.

Some say Nightmare is a form of Anubis, which may be true, but also may not be.

The heartbeat the continues down her back, is said to be the heartbeat of her last victim as they died. Noticed the heartbeat is uneven, but normal pace, and speeds up as it stretches down, then finally ending in a flat line.
