Major experimentation with fur texture and shading. Am taking it slow and careful, adding layers as I go. Once BG is in I'll go back and add final detail and shading. The heavy fur about the neck and shoulders is something of a semi mane that raps around to her back.

only thing I can say is Wow and how? I've been trying to draw fur traditionally for awhile now and could never get it to this soft and thick or like fur at all. This is very lovely and I just can't find anything that would have critique on but that's because I'm not quite as advance. Well actually compared to the rest of the body for some reason the tail looks flat, like it has the texture but it lacks depth, it might be just me though I have a hard time of seeing.
looks like it'll be a wonderful piece. i think the fur looks outstanding - lovely shading and definition. and her gaze captures the viewer. the only thing that seems a little awkward to me are the body proportions; but with that said, it is hard to know what is intentional, due to combining animal and human forms / characteristics, and it may well be the desired result. to me, the upper back seems long (shoulders to rib cage) (which result in the breasts appearing low, and the mid-section short). the groin area also appears a long/low (especially when comparing to the leg), thought it may partially be something of an optical illusion due to the groin fluff. in contrast to the long upper sections, the legs appear short. i don't want any of that to seem harsh however, as i think it is a good picture regardless. i don't think the tail resembles a leg myself, but i can see how the confusion may occour. i think that will mostly fade when it nears completion and if more of the other leg becomes visible. though it makes sense to keep it thick and avoid it following a shape / angle that a leg might be at.
Thank you for your input, and I have yet to take offense at critique. I think the upper body ended up looking a little long for a few reasons, First, I raised her right shoulder kind of in mid stream and and was going to raise her right breast also but I didn't end up raising it much. The fluff/ mane about her shoulders also gives the affect of a false shoulder especially with the left shoulder which is actually a lot lower than it first appears. I do plan on going back and adding more definition to the left shoulder but I think I won't be able to do much about the right breast. I've already reworked the tail and swung the tip more rearward and thickened the upper section and it looks much better. I looked at my master sketch and I did carry the groin fluff a bit lower than originally drawn, That I can fix and ( just moved the junction up about a 1/4 inch in about 30 seconds and it looks much better already).
I welcome critique on all of my work. I guess I should post more of my WIPs.I'll post another WIP of another piece tonight or tomorrow.
Thanks again

i'm glad you are able to take such things well, and that it was helpful, rather than causing any loss of enthusiasm or similar, especially when it is such a nice piece. many points you mention (fluff, postioning and such) make sense, and i expect things will turn out good in the end result. another thing i figured i'd mention, even though i like the result, is that she does have a foxish look (fur type and tail), and a slightly feline face (something about the eyes, cheek bones, and muzzle). i think the look works, but just mentioned incase it was unintentional. nice work on the hands and claws as well btw, and i think those wings are going to look great when they are finished.
