By far, The Doomsday Machine is one of my favorites from TOS.
I do remember seeing a poll as to what the new "villain" would be in Star Trek 12. A lot of people said Khan but most said someone/something else.
The Doomsday Machine would be cool for the next movie. Imagine how much better it'll look with modern cinematography.
You know, some people even suggested Harry Mudd as the "villain".

no no no, you can't do Kahn 'cause this is technically the original series, everyone is thinking it's going to be a remake of Wrath of Kahn, it wouldn't be the same thing. Harry Mudd would be interesting, but he wasn't really a major villain, just one of those re-occurring characters that everyone liked and did bad things :P I'm betting we'll get to see some Klingons, it's only logical since they were shrouded in mystery in the first :D As for the Doomsday Machine, I think we would have another "Motion Picture" of they went that route
The Doomsday would be good because the thing keeps firing and there's Matt Decker. Who knows, maybe they could stretch it out and have more ships join in the fight.
But I remember some people saying maybe something that's not out to destroy just cause mischief, like Harry Mudd.

I actually read a novel where the TNG people cight not one but three of them and Dr. Pulaski is on the USS Repulse.
Cmdr shelby was in it and they even tried the heavy graviton beam that was in development during the first invasion. That novel wouldve made an excellent TNG movie.
