A spotted hyena paw sticks out beneath the lip of the fence and makes a good example showing the fact that hyena paw pads are smooth rubbery in feel, do not have fur between the toes and the claws don't extend down to the ground like in dogs. This example however had a good bit of concrete to walk on so it helped wear the claw tips. The fur around the paw is very coarse and is just on the sides of the outside pads and along the top of the two middle ones. There is none between the toes and it even stops several inches up on the rear pad.

Not yet, need to finish them with some kind of rubber finish. But I cut out some wood blocks to make the toes and was concerned about the flatness, and now I see it's perfectly accurate. However, I did fur between the toes and it's probably too late to cut it out (also it might be slightly integral to structure)
No one will ever know ;)
Tool-dip works great as a rubbery coating.
Only those reading this post will probably know that they don't have fur between their toes. It is one of those things no one ever asks or feels important to mention. I like odd details about creatures. I think you're safe having it..besides, if you're into paws, fur feels much nicer. >.>

More thoughts on this:
Our guys just have shallow water to play in and most love it. I have always been curious about deep water tho! I know that most creatures in Africa are scared of deep water because of crocs and hippos and other scary death dealing things that live in the deep. Without that to fear tho I don't know how they'd take to deep water. Never seen one swim before. Surely some vid is out there somewhere!
I shall venture a guess that they can swim just as well as dogs can. Their toes are somewhat webbed, about as much as dogs are just sans fur.

hmm. Though, I'd bet that the average hyena would avoid it, even zoo ones who have never known the dangers of deeper water. It might be an instinct to just avoid it unless they are shown as cubs that water is fun.
They probably look pretty silly doing the doggy paddle. lol.

Thanks! My suit's paws are exaggerated too but I love paws so there are aesthetic reasons.
I don't remember if it is fore or hind. They do look practically identical.
Oh yes, thanks for reminding me! You are correct! But they do have a nub facing the rear further up. I will post a pic of that next.

Thank you so much for taking this wonderful picture of them, I think it is the absolute best one that exists.
Not sure if you'll take more, but if you should, then I suggest focusing on those overly beautiful pads (and I very much appreciate your description of them too).

Oh good, because I think there needs to be more pictures in general, of the beauty that is a hyena's massive paw pads (since there aren't too many).
I will say it again, I especially adore the pristine texture this one has. :)
You're welcome, since I can't remember the last time a photo made me feel this happy~

The only other [good] photo I could find is this one, and it just goes to show that there isn't many to speak of. Let alone finding someone who knows how to draw them as close to photorealistic as possible.
I do want to take the time now to say that hyena pads look so much better than feline or canine paws, in my opinion; it being the primary reason why I want to see more.
