I'm not sure, I stopped at Bombay Beach itself and a couple little spots along the way from GA to LA, including Imperial Dunes and White Sands NM. Is Slab City near this?

Slab City is a real experience. I'd recommend you stop by and dedicate yourself a good chunk of day to socialize with some of the people there, maybe even stay for a while. The population rises and falls according to the season.
