I watched the squirrels play in the yard today,
And the branches of the trees move and sway,
Over and under, around and around,
Leaving small pawprints in the white ground,

Drifts of snow,
Climbing up trees,
Branches moving
The falling of leaves,

A small playful scuffle,
A meaningless fight,
Around and around our christmas lights,

Maybe they're dragons,
Or a heroic knight,
A wizard with spells,
Who brings the stars to light,

Watching them there from the window inside,
As the fire danced with its own sparking pride,
I wanted to run to leap and join the fray,

I played with the squirrels in the yard today.
