Meet the Herp-Derp Dragon of SKYRIM
I did this after the "last straw" with Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. Before the game came out, I was twiddling my thumbs, waiting for the game to come out. And working at GameStop and them always showing Skyrim play-throughs constantly made it worse. I bought the CE version for $150. Opening the box back home after work was like opening my early Xmas gift. I started playing it for hours on end, doing nothing but eat, work, little sleep and play. Thats all. Throughout my plays, I came across small glitches they didn't seem to bother me. However, the deeper my adventures, the more issues I found. Its like traveling an endless world, fighting and gathering everything you can, only to realize that the last dragon you fight is nothing more than a tiny lizard with a large mental disorder... No, wait, Its like having the DM suddenly saying that the game is over because there were problems with the rules and players.
I have a PS3 version and so far, I encountered enough glitches in the game to force me to stop it out of frustration and draw this. The last straw was the famous "Backwards Flying Dragon" glitch which followed by a "twirling air glitching dragon": When the dragon is flying in the air and you hit it to the point where it HAS to land on the ground, it just starts flipping in the air and the entire game starts snowballing ( getting laggy to the point of unplayable ). Online, I read through the large library and blogs of glitches that people found in Skyrim for every system. True some were funny ( the way to gain unlimited XP to flying 100ft in the air after a Giant kills you to endless magical powers near the beginning of the game ) and some kills the game almost entirely ( quests that cant be done due to the object/person-s not being there or dying but the quest is incomplete ), and even your SYSTEM. Thats right, the glitches in the game ( even with the patches to fix it ) crashes your system. It happened to me twice and the saved files I had were corrupted and I had to get rid of them, thus starting over or to a point where I been to hours ago. Some people say that they had no trouble with Skyrim and it works fine on their system with a smirk on their face. I ask them how long is the stick up their butt.
Now, I dont hate the game ENTIRELY. In fact, for those who live DnD or role-playing games, Im in LOVE with the game. Its amazing, the graphics are far better then Oblivion, there is more to do, more customization... Its basically a wet dream for people with a large imagination and a thirst for exploration and adventure. So you can understand why I feel sad and frustrated with the game due to its glitches. But what do you expect from a game that was RUSHED and extremely big. I can see why some glitches were over-looked because every time you play the game, ANYTHING can happen: random encounters and quests. The game basically lives itself: a virtual world for you to explore. But when it gets glitchy, it pulls you out of the fun and imagination and leaves you frustrated and unable to continue. The game is like a second job in order to play it.
More patches are on the way for the game, but I've read that you basically need to wait until the end of the month to play it again with less glitches. Its a disappointment, but I need to wait until some things can be fixed or even wait until the GOTY collection comes out. It's sad, but I really hope Skyrim will be fixed and I can fully enjoy playing it, completing all side quests, doing EVERYTHING in that world and beating it. I never beaten Oblivion. It was too much fun for it to end. Skyrim is better. I just want to play the game I bought for $150...

I had the Corrupted Save happen to me; And i'm not the kind of person to manually save.. Like ever. So with roughly 80 hours of gameplay, I encountered the backwards dragon. Five minutes later, when it died and I autosaved.. I got the Disk unreadable error, and my saves? Gone.
Aaaaaaand, after playing both Oblivion and Fallout 3, this is why I refuse to purchase Skyrim until April, 2012.
That is my theoretical date where at least MOST of the bugs that they will address will be fixed....
... as it is Befezdurp tradition to leave many well-documented bugs in their games (see: Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages)

Isn't it ironic that the game was so hyped over and when everyone rushed out and bought this "OMFG AMAZING" game they got slapped in the face with countless game breaking glitches. Almost like Bethesda was promising a candy store and handed over a pile of rubble that used to be a candy store, or the blueprints to what will eventually be a candy store.
Also, I can't express how much I adore that picture. It perfectly portrays my lack of enthusiam in responce to the small size of the dragons. It's like seeing a giant shadow on a wall only to find the source of the shadow is a mouse. Seriously, them dragons is small and highly unimpressive. I expected a dragon considerably larger and much more intimidating/impressive for a game with so much hype and expectation.

I defently know how you feel...this is what I've been through scence I got the game about a week ago:
36 crashes
3 derp dragons
1 space fairing dragon( I almost killed it then it flew sideways into space)
1 unkillable mudcrab, which was very funny might I add
2 bored guards(I'm guessing) which attacks on sight
and finally(my favorite) the centurion of fire, which attacks with fire rather than steam...
Skyrim is a wounderful game, though sometimes it does go derp...

Did you also get the town folk falling form the air and slowly vanishing under the ground or through a rock? Its like "Hey! Nice to meet you! Wait...where did you go? " One time, the NPC was someone you had to talk to for a quest to be completed and instead he sunk under the road. "HE WAS A MOLE PERSON!", I thought.
Heh, this gets me thinking of a couple of semi related things. The first is from the Lunar series where a young dragon or dragonette who looked to be about the size of a housecat would perch on the shoulder of the main hero. The other is an idea I had for D&D/Pathfinder where a a ranger has a pseudodragon or some other type of small dragon as his companion. I know some spell casters can get small dragon types as their familiars in the game.
I'm glad I didn't run into bugs yet. What I'm waiting for is the creation kit so people can make Skyrim harder.
I mean, payed 400 gold for taking the ashes of a dead person all of 100 feet to a nearby house? Really?
Can't wait for sleep, drink, eat, and maybe hypothermia mod (I didn't know diving into freezing water was without consequence until I played Skyrim)

i love this picture. the dragon is just adoreable. i play skrim on the 360 & havent run into any glitches aside from the giant one. but ive been watching them on youtube & some of them are really hilarious. i think this ones my favorite though http://poetv.com/video.php?vid=101601.
perhaps its a consolation prize that i havent been glitching because after putting literally HUNDREDS of hours into oblivion & getting every single acheivement besides the final one...a glitch prevented me from finishing the game when i was within minutes of completion. :p

This is why you get the PC version of Bethesda games if can; the minute it comes out, the modders get to work fixing everything... CK release date be damned! :3 Though to be fare, the PC version is suffering a lot of unique UI problems. :/
Still, I get a lot of what you're saying; actually won't let my game take the latest patch until the fix the major porlems that it caused. :/

PC version myself (Already have some player-base mods that have fixed issues- hence PC) but I have felt your pain- by far I must admit though.. for a Bethesda game 'fresh off the presses', this one is so loaded with MINOR bugs in comparison to older games it's a wonderful thing. Your pic is now a wallpaper that my gaming group'll see tomorrow, thank you so much for the laugh, and the wonderful read of all the replies :)
Be thankful it hasn't KILLED your system. I know a friend of mine was rather pissed when Fallout: New Vegas literally killed his PS3. he called Sony about it and they said "NOPE NOT FIXING IT SHOULDA DOWNLOADED THE PATCH", even though he informed them that he has no internet connection.
Suddenly the 'death spiral' dragon appears. That's when the dragon flies right overhead and you chased it so fast that it decides to double back in a tight turn to spray you with its breath, but somehow decides it wants to land instead and ends up going into a downward spiral... THROUGH THE WORLD. So you figure, whatever, one less dragon I have to deal with and run away. Double back the other way and for whatever reason the dragon pops up like a digglet and SURPRISE!! FIRE BREATH through the ground.
I've got this game on the day before it came out (because the game shop owner likes me!) and I got the strategy guide on special offer. So far... I've not even taken the disc out of its box and the guide is still in plastic. If it is as glitchy as you say it is, I'll kerb my enthusiasm until some upgrade patches come out/
As a lover of the TES series, Im sorry your game is ridden with glitches making it unplayable. I play on PC (which is the only way to play a TES game) & am able to work around a lot of game breaking glitches due to the console. I feel for you, since the game, & game series, are amazing. I hope tou pick it back up after it gets some more patches.
when you buy a bethesda game you know that its going to be broke for the first few months.
I know that PS3 owners have had more trouble than 360 gamers but there was a streaming issue that made the game look...crap XD
I dont mind though, I played oblivion and fallout 3 back when I didnt have a internet connection so I didnt get them patched untill a couple of years ago.

spend your time enjoyign the things you payed 150 for. i certainly would. i never got the chance to get the big box. and I wish I could have. I preordered early without the option to swtch from pre-order to pre-order the big box. Not unless I apyed another 150 and got two copies.
Wait... you are whining about glitches with in the first week of release for a Bethesda game? LOL Did you play Morrowind, Oblivion or Fallout 3 on release week? Admittedly until 1.2 came out Skyrim was the single most stable game on release that Bethesda has made in the last decade. Personally I play Bethesda games on the PC for this reason and because the modding community has always been amazing. Finally let's be honest. You paid 60 dollars for the game and 90 for a statue of Auldiun (disappointing derp dragon final boss), an art book and a clothe map. At least be honest about the cost of the game. Nobody made you pay an absurd amount for the collector's addition.
At GameStop ( where I work ), a Collector's Edition of Skyrim was $150 dollars. Its that price because of the contents in it as well as what our Sony rep says. Other places ( medium corporations ) can sell it at lower price to get a larger business. We sell at at the price Sony tells us to. A lot of people are saying "Wait, I bought the CE for only $85." Well, that might be so from someone on the street, from a shady store or from another country where they mean pounds or franks instead of US bills. Plus of the taxes it goes UP. I have played Oblivion years after it came out since it was my first game for my new PS3. Few bugs here and there, but not as guest blocking as Skyrim now. I know that the programmers at Bethesda are working on the issues, more so for 360 and PS3 since people who use PCs can easily fix it themselves and screw around with it as much as they please. I dont understand why people are telling me to stop complaining because their copy for the PC works fine when they dont understand that I have it for the PS3. THAT is why I wrote my thoughts about the game.
You missed what I said about price. The normal edition was 60USD.. the collectors was 150USD in the US. No one made you pay another 90 for a dragon statue, an art book and a cloth map. When Oblivion was first released it was nearly unplayable.. CtDs and hard locks all round on the 360 and PC. It took almost a month for Bethseda to get it straightened out. Fall Out 3 was worse... Morrowind (on the Xbox) never got all of it's bugs worked out for the console. I got that you have the PS3 version and I won't go into why I hate the PS3 or Sony at the moment but.. you shouldn't be surprised this is happening and since the PSN is poorly implemented it will take a lot of time before you will get patches, which sucks and isn't really Bethesda's fault though 1.2 is.
When I got Skyrim, I knew there were going to be minor bugs in it. I just never expected it to be this bad. This is my first time playing a game that hick-ups a lot. Fallout, Fallout NV and Oblivion, I never experienced any issues that were as noticeable as in Skyrim. Its interesting because Bethseda had a hand in making Rage and that was a pretty smooth game from my experience. Its suck, yeah, but no game is really perfect due to flaws and glitches here and there on any system you have. Some things work better on one system than another. PC, Xbox360 and PS3 has its flaws and traits and they are all different. Its like Macintosh and PC computers. They are both computers, but completely different in programming and manufacturing.
I have a right to whine about the glitches being a video game consumer. I always expect a finished great game for the money I pay for it. Its much like buying a commission from an artist and expect it to be 100% done when in the end, you have to wait longer for the image or its not what you really expect it to be.
All in all, Bethseda games are pretty good. I just wish the programmers didn't rush the game just to make it to a unique due date. They should also have more test players and programmers on staff to so they can find more problems with a game this big.
Cheers!

Current Mac stuff is all running intel chipsets these days and has been for a little less than a decade. I'm posting this from a late 08 MacBook Pro running Win 7. I think the G4 for the last mac running on different hardware than most PC. Most of the issues between Xbox and PS3 ports comes down to optimization for the platform. Rage was primarily an ID project that Zenimax tacked Bethesda's name onto last second (and it shows). FO3 was worse than any previous game I'd seen Bethesda release. I had to use a pirated crack that changed the format of the audio files so the game didn't lock up every time I talked to someone for the first 2 weeks after release. NV was a bit better but still pretty unstable with regular BSoDs/crash to desktops until it had been out for a month. Testing something as large as Bethseda's open world games is incredibly time consuming and costly. They don't want hire several hundred people for a few months/weeks and they are still very much a PC developer that relies on the 'We can patch it later" motto. *shrugs*
Then again seeming a lot of console gamers get frustrated at what's been going on in PC gaming for the past two decades is entertaining. Different expectations. Granted I'm still mad at Kerbous of Sword of the Stars II being a fucking beta release candidate with half the features missing or not working on release so they could get it out sooner. @.@

Sounds like a large-scale version of what happened with me and Minecraft last week

... Awww come on, you can't say you don't like Twitchy the Epileptic Dragon. Or Jitterbug the Backwards flying Derpgon.
And Broken the Immortal is just sooooo much fun when his skeletal ass flies down and munches you from no where.
I also love the flying old woman, but that's different... She's just amusing to watch...
Oh! Oh! I also love the weird glitch where if you smack a dragon hard enough to wound it severely, sometimes it'll crash THROUGH THE MOUNTAIN, making obtaining it's soul, (And useful scales and bones) impossible.
Over all, I enjoy playing Skyrim for the adventure, but keep playing for the hilarious glitches and the "I'm so nordic" banter.
To leave off on a fun note...
"I'm so nordic... I eat antlers, eyeballs and giant toes for snacks!"
And on a slightly more serious note.
"I'm so nordic, I'm a High Elf!"
