Short background: The reason his name is Kitami is because a person in his village (before he was born) was sick and needed a purple azalea or rare purple rhododendron, and since no flowers grow in their area they sent their two best explorers (his parents) who went to the Japanese town Kitami, there they got the flower that was needed, and fell in love.
They married back in their town and decided to name their child Kitami, after the place they fell in love.
