"hurrrrrrr i peppurr sprae yuuuh, I donut no whyyy deeeerrrrrrrrp"
The one from the occupation protest on a campus would have been absurdly hillarious if it were not so sick. A bunch of silent, nonviolent, unarmed protestors, all sitting on their knees, and the douch..sorry, cop, just walking back and forth spraying them with pepper spray as though it were air freshener..
I don't know your nationality so I won't presume that American problems are relevant here, but.. you know when i was a little child, my mother's boyfriend was a police officer. And I wanted so bad to grow up to be a cop...... Who the fuck are these people? Here's a good, simple moral compass. Never grow into an adult who you would not have respected or admired as a child. Be the hero you wanted to be, in what ever way you can. And rule number 1 in the hero manual. Don't pick on people who cant or wont fight back.

If you watch the entire video, they were warned to move out of the street and told they would be sprayed if they didn't. They just shrug the officer off and continue to sit there, blocking the campus street and not allowing the police car to move through (they were trying to get a police car through, and the students were blocking the road to prevent the car from moving forward).

That's the full video, it's not like they weren't expecting it, and they all covered their faces and mouths anyway. You have the right to assemble as long as it remains peaceful (they were chanting "fuck the police" for a good amount of time before that) and isn't creating problems (like blocking roads). There would have be no problem had the students peacefully moved to the side of the road.
This "GAS" video, however, is unrelated to the occupy movements. The "Gas" video is truckers in Iceland protesting a 25% tax on each unit of gas (so as gas prices rise, so does the tax which is already pretty expensive in Iceland).
Basically, you can't just get 10 of your friends and sit in the middle of a road or passageway and prevent people from getting through, it's not legal. The fact that the protestors do this so often is why they loose a lot of support.
But that's just my opinion.

The following message is not an invocation of Godwin's law. This famous statement, attributed to Martin Niemöller, is offered for it's intrinsic truth to the human condition.
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, <Muslims>
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. <Muslim>
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
The message is simple. when something is wrong, stop it, anyway you can, no matter what it takes. Not because it influences you, but because it is wrong. The fact that it is wrong is reason enough.
The bible says that Evil triumphs not through the endeavors of the evil, but through the apathy of the good.

But I do not believe the police were doing anything wrong, I believe the protestors in the road were.
They seem to think that they can just sit in the streets and block traffic and that they are somehow protected under their First Amendment rights in that. They are not.
The First Amendment simply states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
I do not believe that they were peacefully assembled in this case. Illegally blocking roads or passageways is not "peaceful" or in any way protected under the Constitution.
And I also feel that the quote by Martin Niemöller is irrelevant to this topic as no one is being "came for," especially not Muslims.
It's also not like they're being shot or anything, it's just Pepper Spray, and it's not going to kill you. Every silly little thing like this that goes on with the "Occupy" movements is blown a thousand times out of proportion.

Well, as it seems that the American Constitution is a joke and should be taken with a grain of salt, according to the passing of the "National Defense Authority Act" which takes away your right to a jury, and fair trial in court, so long as the military deems you unworthy of it.
Anyone can now be held indefinitely, to the end of their lives in America, just on the whim of an authority.
I find that very... totalitarian.
Repugnant, is it not?
Hm, I suggest you protest the newly passed legislation if you believe in the integrity of your constitution.
Now would be an exemplary time to use those First Amendment rights you have.
On a similar note, I see nothing wrong with the police attacking the protesters.
But, as protestors, they should just take the officers wanton assault; upon the pain of death should they fight for their ideals--
Otherwise, what was the point of assembling en masse anyway?
It's simply how things work now, and how they did in centuries prior.
It's just that we've grown so very... socially soft, shielded and pathetic in our cozy first-world.
It would be hilarious, if it weren't so very sad.
Seeing as I am in no way linked to al-Qaida, I doubt I will have to fear such a bill infringing on my Constitutional rights.
What you are referring to is whether the people they arrest on suspicion of being an al-Qaida affiliate will be treated as POWs or as criminals in the civilian justice system. This isn't going to lead to a lifetime imprisonment without trial of some honest hardworking American. However, I am concerned about the +$600 billion spending associated with the bill if it does get passed.
I also don't believe the answer to each and every idiotic bill that gets goes through needs to involve me sitting in a park "protesting" for 3 months. That just doesn't make any sense. (Not that the "Occupy" movement is politically motivated, anyway.)
~
As I will restate, the police did not "attack" the protestors. They warned them to move out of the streets so they could get a car through, and the protestors decided they were going to break the law and remain blocking the road. The police had every right to pepper spray the ones in the road to get them to move out of the way.

Right... Well then, as I still doubt that people of interest who hinder government pursuits will not be targeted by this new bill, I am not suggesting that there would be a flurry of arrests simply for the hell of being the advocate of chaos on the part of military authority.
I'm only suggesting that they took away something, eliminating the system of (superimposed) "checks and balances."
I find that to be highly irrational, but it is dismissed on the fear of invasion and attack from terrorist organizations.
I can see this being easily abused.
Feel free to let the bill go unopposed, it is of no consequence of mine.
Implying that you or anyone could do much.

Attack, as in they took intentional action to harm them to enforce their law.
Attack is not a subjective word, despite what some idiots think.
It is exactly what they did, attack, and I think it to be very stupid to avoid the word in an attempt to make it sound prettier.
Its one of my many annoyances; replacing a word with a cuter, and less overt word or phrased in an attempt undermine the original words implications entirely. Though, avoidance is a staple in politics.
--But please, excuse my tirade.
Besides, look at this adorable, and thought provoking piece of artwork!
It makes me forget all of my worries, and anger! Like miracle drugs!
Thank you Kayanamasha, this is definitely a new favorite of mine.
Oh, right, I forgot to mention that the military already DOES imprison people without charge.
Guantanamo bay, obviously, is an example.
Those were not citizens of America, therefore they aren't protected by our laws.
But now, they can do the same to American citizens.
Funny, isn't it?
Fascism is so hilarious.
