KD the black dragon knew that he shouldn’t have been wandering around the dark and mysterious labyrinth alone. It seemed like nothing but bad things happened in dark and mysterious labyrinths. In fact, there was probably never a good reason for anyone to ever willingly go into a dark and mysterious labyrinth.

And yet, here he was.

KD only barely heard the faint Slup! of a long and elastic tongue whipping forward, but he definitely felt it coil around his tail. Warm, wet, and soft, but with the grip of a vice, the wriggly thing snaked its way up and around the dragon’s body, using the protective spines that ran down his back as a tether point, making each loop set tight in the very instant each one was formed.

The black dragon was almost entirely caught in the powerful tongue’s grasp before he had the presence of mind to even glance backward in surprise. Only now did he see the Pakkun Lizard for the first time. From his view, the bipedal reptile seemed to consist half of a massive, toothless gaping maw, and half pudgy belly and squat legs. The creature was small… at least a fourth the size of him. But for a Pakkun, that fact hardly meant a thing.

KD had heard descriptions – vivid descriptions – of these creatures, but had always dismissed them as fanciful tales. They were reputed to be incredibly dangerous and insatiable predators. They used their tongues to ensnare witless prey who lacked the good sense to keep their distance. But he knew the stories were impossible once it was mentioned that the little Lizards had a taste for dragons.

The black dragon found himself living that impossibility now. He tried to turn and flee immediately, but the Pakkun’s tongue coiled twice around KD’s neck and pulled… hard!

The Lizard was strong… too strong! Unbelievably strong! He could only watch in dread and horror as the little predator’s gullet drew nearer and nearer. What was it doing? How could it intend to swallow something so much larger? With no hesitation, as though the act was completely routine, KD’s head was pulled inside and engulfed in an instant.

This cute little lizard… was eating a dragon.
