I was expecting there to be a layman "this is what a fusor power controler does" description. It certainly looks like something that... spins?

Oh... yeah.

The vice grips have been replaced with a machined hand wheel now. you rotate it and it rotates an off center hub in the triangle plate, which rotates all three variacs at the same time for a 3-phase voltage control.
