Another suggestion that was made on my journal to try do do a non-standard merman/merfolk design. So, using the suggestion of a Manta Ray, I did some research for ideas to come up with for looks, and decided to also include some aspects of sting rays as well as angel sharks. Still debating about the expression on his face, since he might be smiling that his swim trunks didn't rip completely off during the shift, or that it might be really cool having this happen to him.
Or both... I dunno. =P

I... am so delighted by this. I've always loved stingrays, mermen, and happy surfer boys. You have combined them in such a way that it makes all three better. His expression is delightful and those are the best chest gills I've ever seen. Also, I'm surprised I don't see them more. On a humanoid body that just makes more damn sense than a lot of places I've seen them. Kudos!
i went through about five pages of scribbles to figure out some anatomy that would work, so, i figured why not just have the top half more manta like and suck. the tail is supposed to be similar to a sting ray - i wasnt sure which creature i was using for part of it, but i am planning on doing another one with him and it should have the fully done details =)
