I put a lot of thinking into this one. Each of the items has some significance to me.
1. The Mojave Road patch - I used to live in the Mojave Desert (and saw a lot of that portion of Route 66 actually) so I wanted to put an item in there to reflect that
2. The blue whale of Catoosa and the Gemini Giant represent my love for roadside attractions. I love seeing anything that's the "World's (blankiest) (blank)" or stupid sculptures. There's actually a variant of the Gemini Giant that lords over a driving range (golf) near here. Whenever I drive by it I giggle
3. The Cabazon Dinos - Not technically along Route 66 but EASILY accessible as a nearby attraction. I go there frequently because A: it's on the way back from Joshua Tree, B: hilarity and C: the food at the Wheel Inn diner is actually really good (and still looks like it did in Pee Wee's Big Adventure). Tell 'em Large Marge sent ya.
4. Hitler's Car and "The Thing" and the mummies - While helping my friend move to Texas we made it a crazy road trip, and along the way, stopped at many a tourist trap. We must have seen like..4 Hitler's cars. "The Thing" turned out to be a desert mummy, btw. I love roadside museums :3
5. The Wigwam Motel - As mentioned in the previous upload of the full thing, one of the two is actually right by me. Inland Empire pride, yo!
6. The car - my family has a house in Lake Havasu City so we'd go from San Diego to Lake Havasu and a lot of the terrain looks like that, so much of my Route 66 experience is in the deserts of CA and AZ. It's kind of also a shout out to my dad, who has yet to see this but will, and I'm sure critique the car to no end (he's a car nut). Oh well!
Thanks all for a fabulous con!
