Looks good. Don't be afraid to get more aggressive with your highlights and shadows! :)

alright I will keep that in mind when I try with the next piece my problem I'm facing is determining where my shadows and highlights should be based from the light source

I've gone as far as drawing straight lines across the page on another layer (parallel lines for a distant light source, lines that spread out as they cross the page for closer sources). Then, where the lines hit edges of the image, that's where the highlights end and shadows begin.

You can try looking at professional-grade photographs; they are generally very crisp and can give you good ideas of where the shadows fall.

This is my rpoblem as well, so I tend to just add some shadows . . .
